Job 1

Some preliminary experiments for the beginners with measuring devices already known to them

Students practise measuring processes in XI and XII standards where slide calipers and screw gauge are frequently used. Therefore, here we start data taking using the same two apparatus. But still some students may need demonstration. So, please go through the following:

Session 1:

Vernier Constant

Here is an example of Vernier Constant. Try to understand the principle so that you can apply it on different scales.

Least Count

Here is an example of Least Count. Try to understand the principle so that you can apply it on different scales.

Now watch the following video:

1. Find out the Vernier constants of both the upper and lower scale. Definitely, zero error is zero here. Show calculation on a white paper that you shall photograph later.

2. Now, carefully watch the following video and measure the inner diameter of the moving cone at a band marked with your batch number. You have to pause the video for the purpose. Take screenshots of the readings. Use the given manual for making tables.

Zero Error

Here value is the value of zero error.

Again, carefully watch the following video:

3. Find out the least count of the scale. Also calculate initial error (zero error) of the scale. Show calculation on a white paper that you shall photograph later.

4. Now, measure the outer diameter of the moving cone at a band marked with your batch number or an integer that is 15 less than your batch number (for example, band 4 for batch 19, band 11 for batch 26)). You have to pause the video for the purpose. Take screenshots of the readings. Use the given manual for making tables.

Session 2:

Please carefully note down all your questions on a piece of paper. When you’re done, click the “?” mark below before 8:00 pm, Tuesday, 26th October, 2021. You can put all your questions you have written into 3 paragraphs. Each paragraph can contain more than 1 question. Try to ask relevant questions only. You cannot submit more than once.

Answer of Your Question (get at 8 am, Wednesday, 27th October, 2021). If too many repetitions are there, we answer some of the redundant questions.

Session 3:

Correct your readings if needed, using the answers you have got. Take photographs of your paper works. Make a single PDF file comprising all the screenshots and photographs. Then fill up the following Google form. Time starts at 8:00 am, 27th October, 2021. It would be kept open indefinitely, but the longer you take to submit, the less would be your credit.

There is no post processing part in JOB1. Thank you.
